Chapter 208 209: Game Master
Chapter 208 209: Game Master
Angel looked at the man sitting right in front of her. She held up a glowing screen that floated in the air between them. Ren stared at it with clear interest, his eyes wide as he leaned closer.
Ren blinked hard and looked even more surprised. In front of him now floated two plain screens that spread out like wings. Only a few parts of them showed any information at all. The rest stayed dark and empty.
He turned to Angel right away. "How did I get this power? What improved about me? I have not had sex with any new women. Out of twenty I only have a relationship with seven of them."
Angel smiled softly and shook her head. "Eight, not seven," she corrected him in a calm voice.
Ren looked back at the screens and muttered under his breath, "But there are only seven screens working here."
Angel stayed silent for a moment. Then she muttered back, "You will understand soon enough."
Ren studied her face carefully. He recognized her now. This was Angel, the sister of Luxy. Luxy used to be obsessed with drama and chaos. After everything that happened before, Ren had no idea what became of Luxy or her sister. Yet here Angel stood, calm and steady.
"Angel," he said slowly, "am I supposed to wait until they kill each other? Or should I hide so they cannot reach me?"
Angel tilted her head. "I do not know. It is your choice." She paused and added in a quiet mutter, "But you yourself know you will not do that."
Ren smiled at her words. He nodded his head firmly. "Of course I would not. These women… I want to fuck them until they cannot stand. I want to love each and every single one of them. Even with the danger of them killing me because of their jealousy. Even if they try to kill each other. I still want them all."
He stood up straight. The screens around him disappeared in a flash of light. Ren pointed at one glowing name that stayed in the air for a second. "It is time to meet again, Misa Tachibana. My mother whom I still call mother."
He walked away without looking back. Angel watched him go. She spread her wings and flew up into the sky. She knew she was not needed anymore. Once Ren became a player in the game, her job changed.
She was here to protect the game master, not the player. After all, the rules had shifted the moment he stepped out.
Far away from that place, several sick people were being brought to an old hut. Most of them were women. They looked weak and tired. Some coughed softly while others leaned on helpers to walk. The hut itself looked rather dilapidated. Its wooden walls had cracks, and the roof sagged in places. Dust covered the floor inside.
Inside the hut, a woman with black hair worked hard. She wore a mask over her nose to block the smell. Beside her stood another girl with bright pink hair. The pink-haired girl looked smaller than the black-haired woman. She also wore a mask and helped mix medicines in a big bowl.
The black-haired woman wiped sweat from her forehead. "Pass me the herbs on the left shelf, dear," she said to the pink-haired girl.
The girl nodded quickly. "Here, Mother. Are these the right ones?"
"Yes, those are perfect. Keep stirring slowly so it does not spill."
They kept working side by side. The masks made their voices sound a little muffled, but they stayed focused. Another woman walked into the hut just then. She carried a basket of fresh supplies.
"You should take a rest," the new woman said kindly. "You have not been yourself lately. You look so tired these days."
The black-haired woman paused her work. She looked up and forced a small smile under her mask. "We are okay. Really. Thank you for worrying."
The new woman stepped closer. She looked worried. "Are you sure? These past two days you have been looking rather out of it. You keep staring into space. Let me take over for a while. You need a break."
The black-haired woman nodded slowly. "Yes, yes, we are okay. But thank you for taking over. I will let the boss know I am taking a little time off."
The other woman smiled and nodded her head. "Go on. I have this covered. Rest well."
The black-haired woman took off her mask and set it aside. The pink-haired girl did the same. They both left the hut together.
They walked along a narrow path toward a rather small-looking flat at the edge of the area. The flat had only two rooms and simple furniture.
Once inside, the black-haired woman sat down on the old sofa. She held her head with both hands. She looked at her pink-haired daughter with a rather angry look at first.
But then she quickly pulled the girl into a tight hug. The daughter hugged her back. Both of them seemed to have the same conflicting thoughts running through their minds.
The pink-haired girl spoke first in a soft voice. "Mother, do you think Ren is alive?"
The black-haired woman, whose name was Misa Tachibana, answered right away. "Ren and Kyouka both should be fine. We saw Kyouka being taken under custody. She is probably doing fine. Judith is kind, after all. She knows Kyouka well and will treat her properly."
Misa kept holding her daughter close. But as she remembered Ren, a deep emptiness filled her chest.
She felt it grow stronger every second. Her eyes started to sting. A tear was about to fall when suddenly a loud knock came on the door of their small flat.
Misa wiped her eyes fast and called out, "Who is it?"
A woman shouted from the other side of the door. "Miss Tachibana! The boss wants to see you right now!"
Misa stood up slowly. She kept one hand on her daughter's shoulder. "What is it about?" she asked through the closed door.
The woman outside answered, "I do not know. But it seems this is rather important. The boss sounded serious. You should come quickly."
Misa looked at her daughter for a moment. "Stay here and rest. I will be back soon."
The pink-haired girl nodded but still looked worried. "Be careful, Mother."
Misa opened the door and stepped out. The other woman waited there with a serious face. They started walking together toward the main building where the boss stayed.
Misa stepped through the heavy metal doors of the building. It looked nothing like the other simple huts in the freeside of Norbata. Thick concrete walls rose high with hidden watch towers on every corner.
Guards in dark uniforms stood at the entrance with guns ready. Metal fences topped with wires surrounded the whole place. No one would guess this was just a base for a woman who treated sick people. It looked more like a fortress built for war.
Two guards stopped her right away. One raised a scanner. "Arms up please Miss Tachibana. Standard check."
Misa lifted her arms without a word. She had done this many times before. The scanner beeped across her body. The second guard found nothing but still nodded. "Clear. Now put this on."
He held out a thin black band. Misa took it and wrapped it around her wrist. The band clicked shut and sent a small buzz through her skin. It locked away her powers completely. She could feel the familiar empty feeling inside her right away.
The guard smiled a little. "Sorry for the trouble. Boss orders are strict today."
Misa shrugged. "I understand. No problem at all."
She walked deeper inside without any surprise on her face. This was not a normal sick bay. She knew the truth. The elevator at the end of the hall opened with a soft ding.
Misa stepped in and pressed the lowest button. The doors closed and the elevator dropped fast. When it opened again she stood in a huge basement filled with bright lights and high tech equipment.
Scientists in white coats moved between long tables covered with glowing screens and strange machines. Beeps and humming sounds filled the air. Tubes bubbled with colorful liquids. Big computers showed maps and numbers that changed every second. This was the real heart of the base. The sick people upstairs were just the cover.
Misa walked forward. The scientists nodded at her but kept working. Suddenly a woman with short curly brown hair rushed over. She threw her arms around Misa's shoulders in a big hug and laughed with that familiar Italian way of speaking.
"Eh Misa why are you feeling down my friend? Come on tell me everything right now!"
The woman's voice rolled with that warm Italian tone. She squeezed Misa tighter and patted her back like a big sister.
Misa let out a small sigh but smiled a little. "Nothing really. It is just… I wondered whether my son is alive or not. The boss told me some reports today. A young man who looks like Ren was seen near the border."
The Italian woman pulled back fast. Her eyes went wide and she waved her hands in the air. "Those traitor bastards! Killing that handsome boy they should pay for it! How dare they touch him! If I get my hands on them I swear I will make them regret every breath they take!"
Her voice rose loud enough that a few scientists looked over for a second before turning back to their work.
Misa shook her head gently. "He is not dead. I can feel it in my heart. Ren is strong. He always comes back."
The Italian woman's face changed in an instant. The anger melted into sadness. She looked down at the floor and her shoulders dropped. "I wish I could say the same for my own daughter. She died because of their attack last year. One stupid raid and she was gone forever. That is why we do all this work here. Every day I come down and I remember her face."
She pointed across the room to a large metal cylinder that stood on a special platform. It looked like a nuke with thick wires and glowing panels all over it. Red warning lights blinked softly on its side. The whole thing hummed with hidden power.
"See that? We are working on this. It will end everything when it is ready."
Misa looked at the weapon with an indifferent face. She did not smile or frown. She just stared for a long moment then muttered, "We are still in development. It will be years before this works properly. The tests keep failing and the power core is not stable yet."
The Italian woman wiped a tear from her eye and muttered back in her strong Italian tone, "Then it will be in years those traitor bastards get wiped off from this land. Years or not I do not care. As long as it happens. As long as we make them pay for every life they stole. My daughter… your son… all the others. They will feel it."
