Chapter 535: Sealing The Mummy
Chapter 535: Sealing The Mummy
"It didn’t," Primrose said softly. For a brief moment, Edmund had been affected by the mummified skull, but she had managed to pull him back, and she had convinced him that everything it said was nothing but lies.
"Honestly, I don’t think anything could ever tear the two of you apart," Leofric said with confidence. He let out a small chuckle, but there was no mockery in it. "Your bond is strong... and rare."
Primrose and Edmund stayed silent. The situation was too strange, too heavy, and neither of them knew what to say.
After a moment, Edmund spoke. "Then... what exactly is that, Sir Leofric?"
"Oh, right!" Leofric clapped his hands once, then turned back to the mummified skull. He walked around it a few times, brushing away the dust from the old, worn bandages. "I want to unwrap it, but I’m afraid the skull might break if I do."
"Is that a bad thing?" Primrose asked. "If it’s dangerous, wouldn’t it be better if it were destroyed?"
Leofric looked up and gave her a small smile. "Your Majesty, do you know that magic and curses work a lot like water?" he said. Without waiting for her answer, he continued, "If you break the container, it doesn’t disappear. It spills everywhere."
He paused, then added, "Even if we’re lucky, we might be able to keep it in one place, but can you really collect every single drop?"
Primrose fell silent, then shook her head. "No, I don’t think we can do it perfectly."
Collecting every drop of water was already nearly impossible, let alone magical energy that couldn’t be seen with the naked eye. Because of that, Primrose didn’t want to take the risk.
"Then what should we do?" she asked.
Leofric stared at the skull for a while. It had gone completely silent now. "To be honest... this kind of thing is Lorelle’s specialty," he said. "We should take it back to the Noctvaris Kingdom because I don’t want her to leave our territory right now."
Although Lorelle had successfully undergone the soul transfer procedure, her condition was still very fragile. That was why neither of them wanted her to leave the Noctvaris Kingdom, at least for now.
"Can you secure it?" Edmund asked, his tone serious.
Leofric nodded. "That won’t be a problem. I’ll seal it with talismans for now. But we need to move it soon. Something like this... it will definitely attract attention from others."
"I know," Edmund said. "That’s why you can go back to the Noctvaris Kingdom first if necessary. At least we can protect it better in our home."
The two of them began discussing what needed to be done to secure the skull. Meanwhile, Primrose’s thoughts drifted elsewhere.
Maybe... she should ask Nina about all of this.
But how?
Nina didn’t even know that Primrose could see through her true intentions of finding old relics.
Primrose let out a tired breath. All of this stress was truly exhausting her, both mentally and physically.
"How about those women? Do you want to bring them to Noctvaris as well?" Leofric suddenly asked.
"Unfortunately, I can’t bring all of them," he said, his voice tinged with frustration. "I can only take our kind with me, and the humans have to stay here."
[Even I can’t take all of the children with me. I believe Father will take good care of them, but still... I can’t help worrying.]
After all, Lazarus’s safety was also at risk here. Still, Primrose trusted that her husband would place many guards and set up extra protection for his father-in-law.
"We’ve done our best," Primrose said softly as she rested her hand on his arm. "Even if they won’t be under our care directly, at least we can still watch over them from afar."
Edmund lowered his head to look at his wife, then gently took her hand. "Yes... we can still keep an eye on them."
Not long after that, Leofric began preparing to seal the mummified skull. He asked the soldiers to bring the items he needed, while Edmund and Primrose decided to check on the women.
They had become much calmer now after sipping hot chocolate and eating a warm meal. Most of them still didn’t want to be examined by the doctors, but at least some had started to gather the courage to let the doctors check them.
"Rosie, is something serious going on?" Aster asked as soon as she saw Primrose and Edmund walked closer.
From the beginning, Primrose hadn’t told anyone outside about what they had found inside. Only a few soldiers and people from Noctvaris knew the about it.
It was partly because Primrose felt cautious, and also because she didn’t want to put others in danger. After all, this kind of information was too sensitive.
"It’s nothing you need to worry about," Primrose said with a small, reassuring smile. "Really, you don’t have to worry."
Aster looked at her closely. She didn’t say anything, but her thoughts were clear. [Rosie probably won’t tell me if it’s something that could affect the balance between kingdoms.]
[Well, I can’t blame her. After all, I don’t have access to information from high-ranking nobles.]
Primrose pressed her lips together, feeling a bit guilty toward her friend. But deep down, she knew Aster would be safer not knowing everything.
"But what you found... it’s not dangerous for you, right?" Aster asked again, her voice more serious this time.
Primrose hesitated for a moment, then shook her head. "No. We can handle it."
She placed her hands gently on Aster’s shoulders. "We’ll be fine, Aster."
Aster was about to say more, but she stopped when her eyes moved to Edmund standing beside Primrose.
[Her husband will definitely protect her if anything happens.]
Primrose’s gaze softened at that thought. After seeing how Edmund couldn’t be influenced by something so dangerous, she truly believed that her husband could protect her.
"Yes... I know you’ll be fine, Rosie," Aster said at last, smiling a little.
Then she turned to Edmund. "Please take care of her."
Edmund nodded without hesitation. "Of course, Lady Aster. My wife’s safety will always be my priority."
