Chapter 1170 Chaos in New Sparta

Chapter 1170 Chaos in New Sparta

With the death of the four Monsters, something changed within the Colosseum. The invisible boundary, one that had prevented anyone from entering or exiting the premises, had suddenly dissipated.

People that had been pushing to exit the Colosseum stumbled outside, relieved, thinking that they had finally escaped a hellhole, only to be faced with an even more grim reality.

Screams echoed out of New Sparta, as thousands of people were being ravaged by the very same Monstrous Creatures that had attacked the Colosseum.

Except, there weren't just four of them this time. There were hundreds. All spread around New Sparta, sending chaos and destruction all around.

The smell of oil, blood, and fire emanated in the air.

A group of unsuspecting mortals tried to cross a street. A blur brushed past them. They turned to blood red mist.

These Monsters remained rampant, running all around New Sparta with unimpeded strength and speed. Knights, Wizards, and Beastfolks tried to fight the Monsters.

They weren't able to kill it. They could only survive its onslaught. And in order to corner a Monster and prevent it from doing any more damage, it would take the combined strength of a hundred men altogether just to stand a chance.

Unfortunately, there were hundreds more of these Monsters. And the soldiers of the companies and Beastfolk residing in New Sparta were all but united. They were fighting for themselves, with only a few who realized the strategy for surviving was to work together.

Eldae, the Heavenly Swordmistress, looked down from thousands of feet up in the air.

She clicked her tongue. New Sparta had turned into a chaotic landscape under her purview.

"We thought we were outsmarting you by attacking during the Exhibition Tournament. Instead, it only lowered our numbers."

She was talking about Huntrax's mission. They sent a sizable army to fight against the Ersatz members and find out what they were planning.

They seemed to have won. But at a tremendous cost. The Upper Echelon companies, the Order, and the Guild of Arcana had sent their strongest men on that mission.

And they had yet to return. More people will die because of this.

"It is the folly of man to think himself smart," said the figure opposite Eldea.

He was a man in full armor, head obscured by a plated helmet. Only a small vertical slit in his eyes revealed the red glint that the Ersatz members all have.

He was an Epic. A cultivator at the 9th stage of the Nascent Spirit realm. This was not an easy opponent for Eldea.

An invisible shockwave emanated out of the Ersatz Epic. Eldea narrowed her eyes, sending out her own Nascent Influence.

Their powers collided, sending tremors all around New Sparta. If they hadn't had the implicit understanding of lessening their powers, then New Sparta would have been destroyed under one of their Nascent Spirit attacks.

Thankfully, Ersatz didn't want that either.

"Why attack?" Eldea asked her opponent. "Why now?"

She couldn't understand. Why would they attack New Sparta when it was in the middle of celebrations. This meant more people, more guards, more cultivators in general.

"You do not need to know the plans of our leader," replied the Ersatz Epic. "You only have to know that countless mortal men will die today."

Eldea looked down at New Sparta. Down, towards the Monsters terrorizing the city.

They must have planted these monsters long before. And unfortunately, only Nascent Spirit cultivators could kill them efficiently.

A foreign Nascent Influence emanated to her side. Eldea turned, and saw a Nascent Spirit cultivator fighting another Ersatz leader.

They were smart. They occupied the strongest people and made sure the mortals had no one to defend against them.

"Ersatz is inevitable," said the Epic.

It was at this point that Eldea looked down at a point in New Sparta. Her eyes widened.

The Colosseum had been liberated!

She wasn't the only one to notice. The Ersatz member found that four of its Monsters have been slain in cold blood.

"WHAT?! THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE!"

Eldea looked down, seeing Arthur among the crowd. Was he the one who killed them? Unlikely. He was talented, but not that strong.

Then, she saw the crowd. They were celebrating, rushing to greet a single person.

A demi-human. He was none other than the Rebornian Dragonborn!

Her eyes widened. With her senses, she could feel the remnants of the power that had been hidden inside the Colosseum.

A power from the ancient past. A power thought to have been lost.

Eldea's hands trembled. A smile curving on her lips. Her eyes immediately focused on the demi-human.

There was no doubt about it. The remnants of that power was still emanating off of the young Dragonborn.

He had been the one to use the Ancient Roar! It all made sense now. He was also the one who had shown this power back in the Werewolf territory.

"Curse those humans!" the Ersatz Epic shouted. "It doesn't matter. New Sparta is still destined to fall."

Eldea was happy to see a small part of New Sparta be liberated from those Monsters. But there were still thousands in danger. Thousands dying.

The fighters, soldiers, and wizards tried their best. But they were slowly losing men as exhaustion took over their body. The Beast, on the other hand, seemed to be made of endless energy.

The balance was slowly tipping on the Monsters' side.

It was at this point that she sensed enormous magic emanating out of New Sparta from multiple different points.

For a second, Eldea rejoiced. But that quickly turned into sourness as she realized what had happened.

The Upper Echelons had abandoned them. They chose to save themselves.

They used teleportation to escape New Sparta, taking with them their soldiers and men.

This left New Sparta even more undefended. The Knights from the Order won't abandon their post. But they won't fight a losing battle either.

Eldea gritted her teeth. Thousands of thoughts breezing past her mind. Solutions. Compromises. None of them could save thousands of lives.

"WHAT?!"

The Epic's cursing shout brought Eldea out of her thoughts.

She looked down. A Monster cried out, before its limbs cut off from its body, dying.
