Chapter 282: The Cheerful Person Can Get Angry Too
Roxanna truly thought something terrible had happened to Zeir at the Sky Tribe’s settlement, but thankfully, the truth was far better than the nightmare she had imagined.
"We found them locked up by those eagles," Luan explained the moment Zeir and the group from the Sky Tribe arrived at the Vixeria Settlement. "That’s why Zeir decided to free them when the eagles left to attack this place."
After they realized they couldn’t stop the eagle beastmen from attacking the Vixeria Settlement, they finally decided to split up their tasks.
Luan would go to the Vixeria Tribe, while Zeir returned to the Sky Tribe to free the people being held there.
"Carla!" Roxanna hurried toward the ox beastwoman as soon as she saw her.
Carla looked awful. Her body was covered in wounds and bruises, and her eyes looked so empty that Roxanna’s chest tightened just looking at her.
"Did they hurt you that badly?" Roxanna asked softly, almost carefully, afraid she might accidentally make Carla feel worse.
"It’s not ’they’." Carla’s voice came out sharp and full of hatred. "My ex-husband was the one who did this to me." She clenched her fists so tightly her hands trembled. "That bastard... I should’ve known from the beginning!"
"Carla..." Harlan, who was carrying her beside him, let out a tired sigh and looked at her with pity.
Honestly, he looked even worse than Carla. His body was full of deep wounds, and some of them still looked fresh. "It was impossible for you to know his true self because he hid himself so well."
Carla let out a low growl before turning toward him. "But I should’ve known! I’ve always been good at telling who’s a friend and who’s an enemy, so why couldn’t I see what kind of person he really was?!"
Harlan looked like he wanted to say something, but he decided to keep his mouth shut. After all, anyone who heard Carla’s words would probably assume that love had clouded her judgment.
"That bastard is dead," Luan suddenly spoke up. "He was burned to ashes. I hope you don’t mind."
Carla immediately scoffed. "Mind? Like hell I mind! I’m glad that bastard is dead!" Her eyes burned with anger. "Where are his ashes?! I want to step on them until there’s nothing left!"
"Carla, that’s enough." Harlan held her back before she could run off. "Your body needs rest." He then turned his head toward Roxanna. At first, he looked hesitant, probably because of her past, but since he had learned from Carla that the Leader of Vixeria had become a completely different person, he finally decided to speak to Roxanna.
"Can we stay at your settlement for a while?" he asked.
Roxanna, who had been momentarily stunned, immediately nodded quickly. "O-Of course! Of course!" She was about to offer them a room, but when she looked around at the half-destroyed settlement, her expression turned awkward. "But... we probably don’t even have a proper place for you to rest right now."
She looked at Azul. "Maybe we can build temporary shelters?"
Azul nodded. "It’s not a problem."
She looked back at Harlan. "That’s alright, right?"
She turned toward Azul. "Can we make temporary shelters?"
Azul nodded calmly. "That won’t be a problem."
Roxanna looked back at Harlan. "Will that be alright?"
Harlan gave her a small smile. At that moment, he finally fully believed Carla’s words that said Roxanna really had become a completely different person.
"It’s fine," he said. "Besides, our settlement is in even worse condition than yours."
After that, Azul led them toward the area that hadn’t been burned too badly.
"Calen, help him build temporary shelters," Roxanna ordered. "Prioritize the children and elders."
Calen actually wanted to stay beside Roxanna longer, but since he had nothing important to say there, he immediately followed her order.
The other Sky Tribe people also followed Calen because they didn’t know what else to do.
"I honestly never expected one of the eagles to actually seduce Carla," Luan said while watching Carla and Harlan slowly walk toward one of the half-burned trees.
Roxanna nodded. "I never expected that , but still... love can come to anyone, and even a woman as independent as her can suffer because of it."
Zeir let out a sigh. "She looked even worse before I got her out of the cage. It seems like she and Harlan suffered the worst torture because they couldn’t accept that someone they trusted had betrayed them."
"Who was he anyway?" Roxanna asked.
"Oh, who cares?" Luan shrugged carelessly. "He’s already dead, so his name isn’t worth remembering anymore."
"Luan is right," Zeir added quietly. "Some people are better forgotten."
Once things finally became calmer and everyone nearby had followed Calen and Azul, Roxanna was finally able to focus completely on Zeir.
"Oh, Zeir..." Her gaze softened as she looked at him carefully, unable to break eye contact. "I really thought you were badly hurt or—"
"I’m fine," Zeir cut her off before she could say something worse.
His voice was calm, but firm. "That’s the most important thing you need to know right now," he said softly. "And the thing you need to believe."
After that, everyone began working together to build temporary shelters.
The people of Vixeria couldn’t stop shaking their heads as they looked at the ruined settlement around them. Many of them looked close to tears. After all, the homes they had worked so hard to build had turned into ashes in just a single day.
But surprisingly, that wasn’t the main thing people were talking about.
"I really saw Cyrus come back from the dead," one person whispered nervously to the others.
"Leader shot him, but he still didn’t die."
Just like rumors usually do, it spread as quickly as wildfire. At first, only the Vixeria people were talking about it, but before long, the Sky Tribe people and even Carla had already heard about it too.
"Is he dangerous?"
"What if he still has connections with the eagle beastmen?"
"So... what exactly is he?"
Roxanna immediately frowned when she heard those whispers.
She didn’t like this at all.
She didn’t want people looking at Cyrus like he was some kind of monster. And she definitely didn’t want one of her husbands to be feared or blamed for something he hadn’t even done.
Therefore, she suddenly climbed on top of the tallest pile of ruins and shouted as loudly as she could, "Everyone, listen to me!"
She clapped her hands several times to grab their attention.
Very quickly, the people who had been whispering about Cyrus finally stopped talking and turned to look at her instead.
The entire settlement slowly fell silent.
"I know the situation we’re dealing with right now is confusing," Roxanna said firmly. "And I know it’s easy to look for someone to blame when people are scared."
Her voice wasn’t loud, but it carried clearly across the ruined settlement.
Honestly, this was probably the first time many of them had ever seen Roxanna look this serious. There was no awkward smile on her face, no playful tone, and no hesitation in her words.
For the first time, she truly looked like a leader protecting her people.
"But I will make one thing clear," she continued while sweeping her gaze across everyone around her. "I will not forgive anyone who speaks badly about my husbands without proof."
"I don’t enjoy punishing people," Roxanna said honestly. "But accusing someone of crimes they never committed is something serious. And people who do that deserve heavy punishment."
She paused for a moment before speaking again. "So think carefully before you speak," Roxanna warned them. "Because your own words can bring disaster to yourselves."
The entire settlement instantly fell silent.
It was so quiet that even the crackling sound of the remaining fire could be heard clearly. Not a single person dared to speak anymore.
After all, Roxanna was usually cheerful and easygoing. She was the kind of person who struggled to say harsh things to others, even when she was upset.
That was exactly why seeing her angry like this felt so strange and honestly... really scary.
"Have I made myself clear?" Roxanna asked firmly.
A few seconds passed before the people finally found the courage to speak again.
"We understand, Leader!" they answered together.
Only then did Roxanna finally smile again. The cold pressure around her slowly disappeared, and her voice became much gentler than before.
"Thank you," she said softly. "And please remember to separate the injured people based on how serious their wounds are. Those with dangerous injuries should be treated first, then the less serious ones, and finally the people with small injuries."
She paused briefly before adding, "I’ll check on everyone later, but for now... I need to rest for a while. Once again, thank you for your hard work."
It wasn’t that Roxanna didn’t want to help them immediately. But the truth was, she was truly exhausted.
Her body still felt weak after everything that had happened today, and even standing there already felt tiring.
Besides, she had already looked over everyone earlier. Based on what she saw, none of them seemed to have injuries that would immediately threaten their lives.
The Sky Tribe people looked especially terrible, but it seemed Zeir had already treated them before bringing them here. Their wounds looked painful, but at least their bodies had started healing properly already.
"Where is Cyrus?" Roxanna asked Zeir the moment she came down.
